Sharpie

Sharpie permanent markers are the dependable choice for the home, shed and classroom. Quick-drying, fade-resistant ink writes on boxes, labels and most surfaces. Available in fine, ultra-fine and chisel tips.

What Sharpie Does Well

Sharpie markers are solvent-based permanent markers. The ink dries quickly on most surfaces, resists water and fading, and adheres to cardboard, plastic, metal, glass and wood. They are a common sight in warehouses for labelling boxes, in classrooms for art projects, and at home for marking anything from storage containers to sporting equipment.

The fine tip (0.9mm) is the most versatile and by far the most popular. It is small enough for neat labelling but gives enough line weight for general drawing and signing. The ultra-fine (0.3mm) is the better option when you need a precise line on a smooth surface. The chisel tip is useful for broader strokes and for labelling larger items where a fine tip would be too slow.

Sharpie Colours and Sets

Sharpie makes markers in over 30 colours, though the black fine tip is what most people reach for. Multi-packs of black markers are good value if you go through them regularly. Colour sets are popular for classroom use, art projects and organising notes or storage by colour.

Sharpie also makes the S-Note creative marker and the Sharpie Gel Highlighter, which sits alongside the traditional marker range.

Using Sharpie Safely

Sharpie markers are solvent-based, which means they have a strong smell when in use. Use them in a well-ventilated space, particularly around children. Cap the marker when not in use to prevent the nib from drying out. If the nib does dry out, storing the marker tip-down for a few hours can sometimes revive it.
